Summer (almost Fall) Vacation

For the last few years, my wife's parents have talked about making a trip to the Outer Banks.  This past October, it finally happened!  Despite living in North Carolina all my life, I'd only made one trip there and that was twenty years ago when my wife & I had just started dating.  Needless to say, I was excited about going back.

The trip turned into a lighthouse tour, as we visited three of the seven one's on the state.  The first one was the Currituck Beach Lighthouse (link opens in a new window: http://www.carolinalights.com/north-carolina-lighthouses/currituck-beach-lighthouse):

It's located near Corolla and is the only one in North Carolina with a brick facade.

The next day, we traveled south of our condo in Kitty Hawk and took in two more.  First was the Bodie Island Lighthouse (link opens in a new window: http://www.carolinalights.com/north-carolina-lighthouses/bodie-island-lighthouse), which was recently restored and is a real beauty!

From there we drove further south to the famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (link opens in a new window: http://www.carolinalights.com/north-carolina-lighthouses/cape-hatteras-lighthouse ).  It's been moved since my wife & I saw it last.  At that time, it was very close to being washed out and it's wasn't know they would be able to relocated it.  Luckily, they did and it's now a safe distance from the ocean.  Could use a new coat of paint though. :)
